Baobab is an antioxidant-rich fruit originating from Africa which is quickly gaining popularity in the western world. Sold in a versatile, pure, powdered form, baobab is considered a superfood with powerful antioxidant properties, which help protect our skin cells from the damage caused by free radicals. It also contains 3 times more vitamin C as an orange which helps to maintain skin elasticity and cell regeneration. But as well as a versatile food supplement, baobab powder can also be applied directly to the skin, allowing it to absorb all of its antioxidant benefits directly. Here is a baobab face mask recipe which will leave your skin feeling clean, firm and refreshed, whatever skin type you may have!
What you’ll need:
-
Powdered baobab fruit. Try Aduna baobab powder which can be bought loose in a 170g tub.
-
Raw honey
-
Warm water
-
Natural live yoghurt (optional)
Add a teaspoon of powdered baobab to a bowl with a teaspoon of raw honey and mix to form a paste. Add a dash of water to the mixture to make it more runny and easier to apply. This can be applied as a rich, baobab face mask to deliver the antioxidant properties of the fruit straight to the skin. The addition of the honey also helps to gently kill bacteria and moisturise the skin. Combine a tablespoon of live yoghurt to the mixture to make an extra moisturising, calming mask full of probiotics, to treat sensitive or dry skin.
Leave the mask on the skin until dry, then rinse gently with lukewarm water.
Using baobab directly on the skin as a face mask once or twice a week can help to leave your skin looking and feeling brighter, whilst working to draw out toxins which can lead to spots and inflammation. Just like how baobab powder is so versatile when using with food, it is also a great, multipurpose ingredient when using as part of a skincare routine. Try experimenting, mixing into your favourite exfoliator, adding a dash to your night time moisturiser, or combining with other natural skincare products to find what works best for you. The skin absorbs a huge amount of what it comes into contact with, so using a teaspoon of this brilliant superfood as a nutrient shot every few days can give it the boost it needs fight spots and imperfections and slow down the ageing process whilst improving its firmness and overall radiance!
