Foot scrub

Thanks to their gritty texture, Epsom salts make a perfect exfoliator, ideal for removing hard or dead skin from tired feet. Soak your feet in warm water before rubbing with a handful of salts, then rinse and soak for 20 minutes. A long foot soak will have the additional benefits of removing foot odours and relieving aches and pains, so try it to help wind down after a long walk or a hard day at work.

Sprains, bruises and aches

Epsom salts aren’t like your average sea salts. When absorbed through the skin, they work to draw toxins from the body, relieving the swelling of sprains, bruises and other general aches. Add 2 cups of Epsom salts to a warm bath and soak to relieve the pain of sprains and aching muscles as well as the appearance of bruises.

Follow by rinsing with apple cider vinegar to improve shine and leave your hair feeling extra clean. The mixture can be kept for a few weeks and used every time your hair feels excessively oily.

Take your usual conditioner, or treat yourself to one which is extra deep and nourishing, and add equal parts conditioner and Epsom salts to a pan. Warm slowly and add the mixture to dry hair. Leave to work for 20 minutes before rinsing out. You should find your hair is instantly moisturised and feeling more bouncy and voluminous.

The uses for Epsom salts aren’t restricted to caring for you on the outside, they are also great at naturally fixing internal problems. A teaspoon of Epsom salts dissolved in a glass of water is an effective laxative which draws water to the bowels, helping to settle a bloated stomach or constipation.
