Seasoned Pioneers began when Mark, our founder, returned from his backpacking travels wishing that he could recreate the exciting foods he had enjoyed around the world. Extensive research followed, finding the best and most ethical producers, testing traditional recipes, authentically blending herbs and spices then cooking and sampling the results.
Consequently, since 1999, we have been sourcing ingredients from far-flung corners of the globe. Our extensive range of around 300 spices, chillies, herbs, seasonings, spice blends and specialist ingredients include many products that are often difficult to find elsewhere.
With a passion for our planet and a respect for time-honoured farming practices, we strive to source our herbs and spices from traditional producers. This ensures that their livelihood is supported and that we obtain truly authentic natural products.
We are licensed by the Fairtrade Foundation and vehemently adhere to their standards, enabling us to include a selection of Fairtrade spices within our range. A team of keen travelers, particularly to Africa and Asia, we care deeply about fair prices and working conditions for farmers and workers in the developing world. Long-term sustainability for these producers is vital. On identifying a good source of a particular product, we will strive to remain loyal to that supplier.
Seasoned Pioneers also have Soil Association Organic certification and include a wide selection of organic herbs, spices, chillies and peppercorns within our repertoire. Additionally we offer many organic spice blends from all over the world including the Middle East, Africa, America, India and Europe.
Our spice blends are made following time-honoured production methods. To do this, the ingredients of each spice blend are carefully selected, traditionally dry-roasted in small batches and hand blended to authentic recipes. This results in an astonishing and wonderful intensity of flavour.
With few corners of the world unvisited, the extensive collection of blends that we make enable adventurous cooks to enjoy international cuisine at home without contributing to their carbon footprint.
Having gone to such lengths to find the very best herbs and spices available, we do not then subject them to the detrimental effects of light and air. Proven to sap the colour, flavour and aroma from herbs and spices. It is vital that they are protected, which is why they are packaged in our unique resealable foil pouches, rather than glass jars or plastic bags.
As a very small company with just eight employees, we are hugely flattered to have our products championed by an array of celebrity chefs and food writers, including Delia Smith, Rick Stein, Nigella Lawson, Nigel Slater, Ghillie Basan and many others.
Recognising that many people love to enjoy exciting cuisine, but are strapped for time, we have introduced a range of ten gourmet cooking sauces, using our own spice blends and seasonings.
The sauces contain no preservatives, no colourings, no artificial additives and most are suitable for vegans, vegetarians and coeliacs. The range, of real provenance, encompasses India, China, Mexico, Morocco, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Spain and Louisiana. We hope that this further contributes to people being able to experience different cultures without the need to travel overseas.
Our company adage is ‘helping adventurous souls achieve culinary inspiration’ and as such, we take considerable pride in what we do, operating as ethically and as environmentally friendly as we possibly can, in all aspects of Seasoned Pioneer work.
